ISN Renal Pathology Working Group Webinar: Advancing Diagnosis: Insights and Recommendations from the TMA-Banff Working Group on Renal Thrombotic Microangiopathy

Renal thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA) presents significant diagnostic challenges in the context of renal allografts, often complicating post-transplant outcomes. This session will provide a comprehensive overview of the insights and recommendations from the TMA-Banff Working Group, emphasizing the latest advances in the diagnosis of TMA. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the criteria for diagnosing TMA in renal allografts, developed through the Delphi method for consensus generation. The session will also explore the differential diagnosis between TMA and antibody-mediated rejection (AABMR), along with a detailed examination of the histological findings associated with TMA.

Learning objectives:

  • To understand the challenges nephrologists and pathologists face in diagnosing TMA in renal allografts.
  • To explain the Delphi method and its role in achieving consensus on diagnostic criteria.
  • To identify the histological and differential diagnostic criteria for TMA in renal allografts.
