Monogenic kidney disorders are individually rare but collectively can explain around 30–50% of chronic kidney disease (CKD) causes among children and 10–20% of adult CKD cases. Rapid advancement in next-generation sequencing technologies has enabled timely and precise genetic diagnosis and can profoundly benefit the clinical management of these patients and their families. Ongoing research on individual monogenic kidney diseases advanced our knowledge on disease pathogenesis and opened the doors to novel therapeutics. The implementation and broad application of genomic medicine in nephrology requires both education to raise the general genomic literacy and nephrogenetics sub-specialty training to nurture expertise. The International Society of Nephrology Education Working Group has undertaken the development of a comprehensive online program to advance understanding and education in this rapidly evolving field. The new curriculum ‘Genetics in Kidney Disease’ led by Drs. Becky Ma and Anuja Java, features a series of 11 recorded lectures covering key topics in nephrogenetics, together with roundtable-style panel discussions featuring leading experts on each topic for open conversations and deeper insights. We hope the curriculum serves as a valuable educational resource and inspires continued learning and collaboration in the field of nephrogenetics.

For the last 30 years, ISN’s Fellowship Program has provided grants to young doctors in low-resource settings to access high-quality, hands-on training. In-person, hands-on training at the host center will now be supplemented with online courses on the ISN Academy for a truly hybrid experience. Hybrid Fellowship modules are currently available in General Nephrology, Dialysis, Transplantation, and Pediatric Nephrology. ISN Fellows will follow the module related to their Fellowship’s primary focus, and the modules will be continually updated. Through the Hybrid Fellowship Courses, ISN Fellows will have the opportunity to learn from not only their host mentor, but also the many experts from around the world who contribute to the ISN Academy.

Educating non-physician healthcare workers about the basics of kidney diseases is essential for early detection, timely referral, and prevention of complications in at-risk populations. These frontline providers often serve as the first point of contact, especially in resource-limited or rural settings where access to nephrologists is scarce. By equipping them with fundamental knowledge of kidney anatomy, physiology, risk factors, and common screening tools, such as blood pressure and blood sugar measurements, they can play a vital role in identifying early signs of chronic kidney disease (CKD), promoting lifestyle changes, and guiding patients toward appropriate care pathways. This not only enhances community-level awareness but also strengthens the overall kidney care delivery system. This curriculum was developed by the members of the ISN Emerging Leaders Program (Cohort 3) led by Mythri Shankar. Other contributors are: Marek Kollar Chimezie Godswill Okwuonu Becky Ma Yogeshni Chandra Daniel O'Hara Tae Won Yi Ana Catalina Alvarez Elias Priti Meena C. Elena Cervantes
