WCN'22 Nephrology Annual Review Course

The course comprises three sessions on current issues in nephrology: Advances in Glomerulonephritis therapy, lessons learned from COVID-19, and an overview of chronic kidney disease/ kidney failure. Presented by experts, the first session covers the latest developments in managing lupus nephritis, ANCA vasculitis, and childhood nephrotic syndrome. The second session will highlight the impact of the COVID-19 infection on critical care nephrology, dialysis patients, and transplant recipients. The last session will elaborate on the effects of malnutrition in kidney patients, the importance of CKD of unknown etiology, and the challenges of managing CKD in developing counties.

The COVID-19 pandemic has challenged all aspects of kidney care and led to numerous lessons learned in the field of nephrology spanning from mechanisms of acute kidney injury to the care of dialysis patients and kidney transplant patients. Learning these lessons will help us be better prepared to care kidney patients during pandemics of the future.

Proper CKD care is very important to prolong the longevity of the functioning kidneys and to delay the progression into the costly kidney failure (KF). CKD and KF are associated with significant impact on the morbidity and mortality.
