ISN South Asia Regional Board Webinar: Management of Patients With Chronic Kidney Disease and Heart Failure: Role of Interdisciplinary Care

Managing patients with both CKD and heart failure(HF) requires a comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach due to the complex interactions between these two conditions. >span class="NormalTextRun SCXW74332497 BCX0"> CKD patients die due to cardiac problems. The nephrologists and cardiologists work together to tailor the management plan. Many drugs, RAS blockers, beta-blockers, diuretics, and mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists, are prescribed to manage both heart failure and CKD. However, more fine-tuning is required in CKD, compared to HF in the non-CKD populationBesides medical management, fluid, electrolytes and nutrition management, psychosocial support, care coordination, and follow-up are key components of the management. Interdisciplinary care can optimise outcomes for patients with both CKD and heart failure, improving quality of life and reducing the risk of complications.

Learning objectives:

- Understand the importance of interdisciplinary care in optimizing outcomes for patients with both chronic kidney disease (CKD) and heart failure (HF).ç
- Identify the appropriate fine-tuning of drugs, including RAS blockers, beta-blockers, diuretics, and mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists, commonly used in the management of both CKD and HF.
- Evaluate the outcomes of patients with CKD and HF, as well as the reciprocal impact of heart failure on CKD, to inform comprehensive patient management strategies.
