Sex and gender influence every aspect of kidney health — from disease risk and progression to access to care and treatment outcomes. Yet, these factors remain underrepresented in both research and clinical practice. In this joint ISN-KDIGO webinar, faculty will present highlights and recommendations from the KDIGO Controversies Conference on Women and Kidney Health.
The session will provide an overview of the science behind sex and gender-based kidney medicine, explore how these considerations can be meaningfully integrated into clinical research, and discuss practical strategies to improve the delivery of kidney care for women globally. Participants will gain a better understanding of the importance of equity, data disaggregation, and inclusive care models in advancing kidney health for all.
Learning objectives:
- Review the science and principles underlying sex and gender-based kidney medicine.
- Identify why sex and gender factors are critical to the design, analysis, and interpretation of kidney research.
- Incorporate sex and gender considerations into clinical kidney care to improve outcomes and equity.
