ISN-IFKF-WKA Webinar: Towards Equity: Enhancing Kidney Transplantation in low resource setting

Kidney transplantation offers the best outcomes for patients with end-stage kidney disease, yet access remains limited in many low-resource regions. This joint ISN–IFKF webinar will explore practical strategies to expand transplant services where resources are scarce.

Experts will share successful models, discuss barriers and ethical considerations, and highlight opportunities for collaboration. Topics include infrastructure development, donor programs, policy support, and community engagement. The session aims to foster dialogue and inspire action toward equitable access to transplantation worldwide.

Learning objectives:

Understand the survival and cost-effectiveness benefits of transplantation over dialysis in low-resource settings.
Recognize immunological challenges and limited desensitization options in constrained environments.
Evaluate strategies for expanding living and deceased donor programs where resources are limited.
Identify cost-effective immunosuppression approaches using generics and simplified protocols.
Review scalable models for building transplant programs with limited infrastructure.
Discuss ethical and legal issues, including equity, donor safety, and anti-trafficking measures
