ISN-BSN Webinar: Natural Disasters and Nephrology – Geographic Impacts, Organizational Responses, and International Insights

This webinar will explore the critical intersection between natural disasters and nephrology, with a focus on the recent natural disaster in Rio Grande do Sul and its impact on dialysis and kidney care. Attendees will gain an understanding of how geographic factors influence the vulnerability and response of nephrology services during such catastrophes. The session will cover the organizational mechanisms for disaster response, drawing on international experiences, particularly from the ISN Renal Disaster Preparedness Working Group (RDPWG). Emphasis will be placed on the systemic impacts of natural disasters on kidney health, strategies for mitigating these effects, and lessons learned from global responses to similar events. This session is essential for nephrologists, healthcare providers, and disaster management professionals seeking to improve preparedness and response strategies in the face of environmental crises.

Learning Objectives:

- Understand the geographic and environmental factors contributing to the vulnerability of nephrology services during natural disasters, with a case study on the Rio Grande do Sul disaster.
- Analyze the organizational mechanisms and response strategies employed during natural disasters, focusing on the role of nephrology services and the experiences of the ISN RDPWG.
- Evaluate the broader impacts of natural disasters on kidney health and dialysis services, and discuss strategies for improving preparedness and resilience in nephrology care.
